Van Sales fuelled by growth in online shopping

Van Sales fuelled by growth in online shopping April 14, 2015 by Ian Wright

On the back of the good news that the UK new car market has just recorded its best monthly figures since August 1998, with 493,000 new cars registered in March 2015, The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has reported that almost 100,000 vans were registered in the first three months of 2015 - 22.3% up on the same period in 2014.
No surprise really when you consider the growth of online shopping; online sales in the UK hit £103bn last year according to IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, creating a booming market for the home delivery of orders.
The figure is expected to rise by 12% in 2015 to about £1 in every £4 spent by Britons.
An SMMT spokesperson said: "Van registrations have risen consistently over the past two years, mainly as a result of steadily increasing business confidence and a range of attractive finance deals. The move towards online shopping and home deliveries is an important contributor to this growth - particularly that of large vans."

So, a question for the commercial vehicle sales sector then raises its head; “Are you ready for the increase in trade-in and used vehicles that will come to the market in the next 24 - 60 months?”
The sub-vented finance programmes that are helping to drive sales volumes should result in opportunities in the form of used commercial vehicles.
Are the dealer networks ready to capitalise on the used vehicle opportunity or will trade-in/end of finance lease vehicles find their way to auction and on to non-franchised or second user homes?
An opportunity missed???? Certainly something for those of you in commercial vehicle sales to think hard about.
