About Ian - Automotive Industry Business Coach

Ian - Automotive Industry Business Expert

My life in the Motor Trade started in 1982, selling used cars from a non-franchised site. Exciting times for a youngster who loved all things automotive!

From this starting point, my career developed to include working with Vauxhall (Opel), BMW and even Aprilia Motorcycles - all valuable and varied experience which brought me into contact with a wide range of people and business practices.

Having achieved senior management level worked in these positions for many years, I then opted to join PEP as a Management Consultant and have spent the last 13 years working with motor manufacturers and their dealer networks – primarily focussed on improving operational performance and introducing processes that generate more sales and profit.

Our business is very “hands on”, all about getting results, and that suits my approach well. I like to work with people and help them to develop their skills through sharing some of the knowledge acquired and the experiences and challenges I have had over the years.

I have found myself fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively with PEP, experiencing new markets, cultures and approaches - and I feel this diversity of knowledge - linked with my previous operational experience - helps me to better understand some of the challenges you face day to day.

PEP Automotive Business School provides a unique means of tapping in to mine, and my colleagues, experiences on a daily basis and I’m really excited about this latest stage of our development.

I know you will find this hard to believe having seen photos of me, but one of my favourite hobbies is cycling – not the normal cyclist stick-thin profile you would expect! In recent years I have cycled from London to Paris, Coast to Coast in the UK and continue to do regular Charity Rides of 100KM or more in an effort to keep myself fit. I also enjoy classic cars and can be found every year at the Goodwood Revival soaking up the sights, sounds and smells – a true petrol head!

My achievements in cycling come through regular training and being mentored by professionals to improve my performance. As with all things in life, if you want to be good at it, you have to be taught and practice it.

This can be applied to your work life too. Interested in doing more with us? Join us and let us share some of our great knowledge with you.
